Atmos played a unique and new collaboration by partnering with a Japanese toy shop – Secret Base and taking design help from the American tattoo artist – Chris Trevino to bring out a nice looking Secret Base x atmos x New Balance 996 | November 2010. Chris Trevino designed the Tiger art on the insoles and the stripes that cover the mudguard. The theme is inspired from the tiger of the sexagenary cycle of the current year.
Tiger stripes are also used on the edges of the N logo. Gold is the only color used to give beautiful contrast on the premium black leather base. It creates a perfect accent on the side panel, tongue, inner liner and quarter panel. Gold speckles can be found on the sole unit along the midsole and the name of every collaborator can be found on the insole. As has been found in most New Balance collaborations recently, the tiger accents makes the insoles as the most striking feature of the complete design. It can be said that arguably this is one of the best products coming out of the atmos collaborations, to date. The pair has in fact come to life with its jungle-like notorious looks. Other features of this 996 include a rubber sole unit and perforated premium leather toe box. The tiger prints can be seen in grey accents on the heel counter as well. The Secret Base x atmos x New Balance 996 | November 2010 is set to release exclusively in Japan in November 2010.
